Dow Presents First Carbon-Neutral Silicone Project at Zak World of Façades

Attendees at the recent Zak World of Façades event in New York City had the opportunity to learn about recent advances to help address their sustainability goals.

Dow Building & Infrastructure Associate Technical Service & Development Scientist Skyler Will presented “Designing with more freedom by engineering less impact: Carbon-Neutral Silicone Service for Building Façades” at the event, discussing why reducing embodied carbon in building materials such as silicones is important for reducing greenhouse gases, how key elements of the PAS 2060 standard help ensure verified carbon neutrality and more.

Recognizing the first project completed in North America using Dow Carbon-Neutral Silicones for Building Façades, Dow presented a representative of Press Glass, Inc., with a Carbon Neutrality Certificate for the Two Clinton Park project for fabrication of the glass curtainwall. A certificate was also issued to curtainwall contractor Cherry Hill Glass Co., Inc., for installation and weathersealing of the structure.

Industry-first Carbon-Neutral Silicones from Dow

Showcasing 145,000 square feet of unitized aluminum curtainwall system, Two Clinton Park in New Rochelle, New York, USA, features clean, modern lines – and has the distinction of being the first building in North America to be built with carbon-neutral sealants.

The carbon footprint of the products in Dow’s carbon neutrality program has been assessed and certified by an independent third party per ISO 14040/14044. The products also have been assessed by an independent third party per PAS 2060.
